Peoples,

Sorry for the lack of posts, but we've been busier than ever, traveling around the world. We just finished a whirlwind job for Apple that took us around the U.S. as well as to Paris and Tokyo.

It was exhausting but well worth it.

Just before that job we did some iPhone developer stories for Apple as well to promote WWDC. They are slightly buried on the site, you can check them out here! We directed Smule and Cultured Code, and Luke shot them all.

Killers,

We've been working a bunch, I literally had one day off in September. Unfortunately our Rayban film has been held up due to some rights issues that need to be worked out, but as soon as that's done we'll post it up.

We won two, count em... TWO; "One Show" advertising awards for for best unscripted branded content show we directed (even though the bio sections were scripted, I guess most of the show wasn't) MTVs Gamekillers Episode 1 got the GOLD prize and Episode 4 got the BRONZE, and the SILVER went to our friend Mike Warren's "Basketball Disciples" for Nike (Which Luke shot a bunch of in China and the US). So thanks to all that were in involved and congrats to Mike, even if he only got Silver, ha.

So we are back from Mexico, it was great... just what we needed to get away from the city for a while. We checked out some Mayan ruins, chilled on beaches, and went spelunking in some cenotes (underwater caves). Luke is now off in Alaska shooting some spots with our friend Derek Cianfrance, and I am in NYC prepping our film for Rayban.

Just before we left we made this short film called "A Stones Throw" as a part of Tommy Hilfiger's Fall/Winter 2008 collection. It's a simple little film about the art of skipping stones put to "Slip Into Your Skin" by Patrick Watson. You can see it on the Tommy site in Flash or right here in QuickTime:

Just a quick update.

First and foremost... this guy was apparently at the San Diego Comic Con... I laughed so hard sitting alone in my apartment that I thought I must share it. It's pretty disgusting. Rule of thumb, wear underwear when dressed in a spandex body suit. Who the hell is he even suppose to be?

We just shot a fun and almost experimental short film for Tommy Hilfiger that is to be released in a few weeks. We finally get to put those art school educations to some good use.

Then we are off to Tulum, Mexico next week to do some research for a possible upcoming AMAZING project... but mostly for vacation. Jealous?

As soon as we get back we are shooting another short film/commercial for Rayban with a really cool agency called Cutwater from SF. We are super psyched about this one, it's going to be a lot of work, but the film is gonna be off the hook!

And finally, we are going back to our roots... as it looks like we may do a video for our good friends Matt & Kim... and we couldn't be more excited about the possible theme for that video. It has to do with one of our favorite movie genres... and it's gonna be great for when we show up at Hollywood's door wanting to make one.

Reading & Leeds Music Festival

I was contacted by MarBelle at Director's Notes asking if I wanted to screen a really old short film I did at the cinema tent of the Reading & Leeds Music Festival.

Of course I said sure! It's from somewhere around 2003, even pre-wormseye, and it stars Juyeon (Jun) Lee (a.k.a Shiny Juna) my girlfriend at the time and I concieved, shot, edited it all in one day. It's so old I don't have it posted on the site, but here it is if you want to check it out:

We won a Bronze Lion at Cannes!

We just found out we won a Bronze Lion at the 2008 Cannes Lion Advertising Awards for the MTV series we shot and directed "The Gamekillers".

Unfortunately, someone screwed up the credit for Director of Photography and listed Emmanuel Lubeski as the DP. Even though, it may have been cool for us to work with the guy that shot Children of Men and The New World, the beautiful photography in the show was courtesy of Luke McCoubrey! We heard the credit mistake is currently being remedied.

Time to call Mom and tell her sons are officially "Award Winning Directors"!

HOTSHOT HERE'S LOOKING AT SHOE 16 April 2008

This week's Hotshot is the latest instalment in 180's adidas Originals campaign from The McCoubrey Brothers through Radical Media. Super-sized superstar sneakers do bi-coastal battle as two art collectives face off in an urban stylewar.

They say you can tell a lot by the size of a man's shoes. Like the size of his feet. And his height. Amongst other things. But in this week's Hotshot the McCoubrey Brothers show that size isn't everything, as they pit East Coast art crew Surface2Air against the West Coast's Upper Playground, challenging both collectives to tag up a pair of gigantic superstar sneakers in just three days.

Rather than setting the two groups of artists a very specific brief, 180LA decided to keep things as loose as possible, as art director Erwin Federizo explains. "We set a very loose brief for the teams to work off. Basically, the artists from both coasts were told to create artwork that celebrates their very own originality and so we let them run free on colour palette, medium, and theme."

From the start, the idea was to create a film that would feel more like a music promo than a commercial spot, and Pete and Luke McCoubrey seemed a perfect fit to the team at 180LA. "We brought in The McCoubrey Bros. because they had a vision and fresh aesthetic for the film that ran parallel to ours," say Federizo of the collaboration. "What really mattered was working with these two true sneaker-phile directors to bring a lot of genuine energy and enthusiasm to the project. The McCoubrey Bros. proved to be a very strong one-two punch and they've created a piece of film we are all stoked about."

The colossal 15-foot superstar replicas were created at The Character Shop in California, and took almost a month to complete. "A lot of planning went into the creation of the gigantic shoes to ensure that they would be mobile, lightweight, durable, paintable and most important- exact to spec," reveals Federizo.

"In addition to all sorts of epoxy resins and shaping foam, there was a lot of meticulous counting and matching the placement of "x's" (found on the pattern of the rubber shell toe). Fire hose was used to replicate the shoelaces. And tiny wheel casters were placed under the shoes to make them mobile."

Back in a New York Groove

We are back home, although I came back to moving apartments and Luke is heading to Arizona next week.

The Adidas job went over really well, all parties involved we very happy with the final product, which should be hitting the web on April 15th. It was a fun project, and we made many new friends. The the folks at Radical Media and Outpost Digital LA who made us feel at home, the team at 180LA who believed in us and gave us a rad creative to work with, finally to the team at Adidas who really supported us through all the steps of the filmmaking process. I can't forget super producer Alex Lisee who was our woman behind the curtain and made it all happen.

I also should give a shout out to Nick McCarthy (Alex's husband and fellow horror film geek) for taking me to a sweet double feature of The Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps at the New Beverly. Nick and I did a script exchange, I can't wait to hear if he thinks my script is a total piece of crap or not. Nick wrote an awesome feature script called "Sever" that him and Alex are in the process of trying to get into production and we wish them all the luck with that.

We had a good time in LA but it's good to be back in NY. Anyways I should get back to packing. Did I mention I haven't done my taxes yet!

So I am in the middle of week 3 in LA, and I have to be honest I am starting to warm up to the place. I have been a notorious LA basher for years now, and although it will never hold a candle to NYC (the best city on the planet), there is something nice about a regularly 65 degree February. Luke left town yesterday to go back and shoot in NY, so I am living on my lonesome in Santa Monica until next Saturday. The Adidas project is going really well so far, the agency and the client are really digging our cut so we are psyched. Check back soon to see that film and we may have some news about a new project as well!

Happy 2008!

We started the new year right, with lots of gigs to keep us busy. Luke's schedule is out of control right now. He's in Beijing shooting a TV show, then he flies all over the US before meeting up with me in LA where we are doing a really cool project for Adidas. I have been editing the month of January and February away on various little gigs. I am just finishing up a short piece on the model casting process for Ralph Lauren and fashion week, I think it's going live today or tomorrow on their website, RalphLauren.com

Then on Monday we go full force on this Adidas project. I can't say what it is yet, but we are working with two artist collectives Surface2Air and Upper Playground. The project is going to be dope! Luke and I are really excited about it. We are going to be in LA for a month, so all our LA peoples, let's get in touch and tear up your coast!

So we've been busy and up to this and that.

Luke just got back from San Quentin prison, shooting prisoners for a new Discovery channel show, but before he left we wrote some animated shorts for Conservation International.

They are a big non-profit organization that is helping us save the planet from ourselves. These animations are to be included in a Carbon Calculator that is going to be on a bunch of different websites. If you don't know what your carbon footprint is or what a carbon calculator is then head over to Conservation International now and read all about it.

So while Luke was in prison I was cutting mattes and animating in 3D space. Here are the films we made:

Our friends Frankie and Jeff have been missing all summer. There are those who claimed they were tucked away in some secret underground lair performing horrible experiments that test the boundaries of the natural world. Then I received word from one of our secret operatives...

THEY HAVE RETURNED!!

The Kid America Club has produced 30 some odd episodes of "Lil" Hipsters" rolling out once a week over the next few months.

Luke and I just watched the intro episode and we had to keep stopping it because we were missing parts from laughing so much! These guys really did a bang up job! We are super dooper psyched that we have something this awesome to be watching every week for the next few months!

In our opinion these guys are true artists. That's not a joke either. These guys took all their personal obsessions, obsessions that would normally make regular adults look like MAJOR NERDS and somehow crafted them into a rich, colorful, viable, and totally entertaining fantasy world. They could map out their characters and world for you in the same way J.R.R. Tolkien could map out Middle Earth. Their attention to detail is impeccable. Their art direction is so on point it should make a single tear roll down the cheek of Wes Anderson. And sure like all great comedy it's got great and poignant social criticism, but Frankie and Jeff would probably laugh at me if I said that to them because mostly it's just good ol' fashion funny!

Gamekillers Wheatpastings

Luke and I took a stroll around the city yesterday on an unusually hot October 3 and everywhere we went we kept seeing Gamekillers posters.

I was in LA a few weeks ago and saw them up there a plenty, but hadn't really seen much in our hood. People kept telling me there were seeing them though, and they were right. Took a few pics, mostly for my mom to see!

We finally updated the site and it's not an easy thing to do. I make the site in Photoshop and Image Ready because I don't have the patience or desire really to learn a real web program. But I did it! So check through the pages and all their NES glory!

So The Gamekillers is currently airing on MTV fridays at 7pm and apparently it's getting good ratings, so that's a bit of good news. It's weird I was in LA last week and I saw wheat paste posters for it all over the place, the started showing up in my neighborhood in NY as well. It's the first time I can point to something like that and say, "Hey, guy stealing my bike tire, that's the show I directed!" aren't you proud of us Mom?

The bad news being that they did something to the image in the broadcast and it looks totally washed out, we spent so much time making sure it looked dope and then finally when it goes through all the broadcast portals and ends up on digital standard def cable it looks like crap. It actually looks better on YouTube than it does on MTV's website.

Oh well, I am sure most people won't even notice. The other bad news is a job just died on us, so instead of harping on the bad, we are going to use this new freedom to update our reel and website. Over the next few days we will be adding some new contents amd bring the site to it's new 2.0 status! So check back next week to view it in all it's glory!

I can't believe it, but summer is almost over and we spent the whole time working.

First and foremost, we just finished our first TV series for MTV, it's called: The Gamekillers

and it premieres Friday September 21 at 7pm eastern time. You can learn more about the show at MTV's site and watch the trailer and some of the gamekiller bios, it's all encoded in flash an looks awful though (and the bios are stretched incorrectly instead of letterboxed like they should be), so I will post some hi-rez quicktimes here when I get a chance.

We worked all summer on the show Luke was the DP and co-director and I was co-director and an editor on the show, and we are really happy with how it came out, the flash movies don't do the images justice.

We have some exciting stuff on the horizon, maybe some more TV stuff maybe something bigger.

Also, I want to congratulate our best bud and fellow Wormseye alumni Adam Neustadter and Audrey Levi who are getting hitched next month!!!

You should also head over to Adam's site and check out the beautiful little film that he made. It's a french new wave love letter to music, film, and of course the gorgeous Audrey!

Ok, I am out for now, but should have more goodies for you soon, I really need to update the site soon as well!

So it looks like the stuff we did for Rocawear is out there on the web.

They put them up at iwillnotlose.org and also on YouTube. For some reason they changed the music track and laid extra music under all the youtube pieces, so they lost the impact of the first person interview in my opinion.

Hey,

Have been too busy to post, but that's good news, because we have been crazy busy. First of all I (Pete) had an amazing time in Maui and Oahu. Big shout out to my pals Fabio and Kristi for putting us up in Honolulu, had a great time ctaching up and meeting their friends. Fabio and his friends have a dope little filmmaking collective called 3Toad Films they are doing some awesome little shorts and winning all kinds of Film festivals out there, so check them out now!

We finished all our Rocawear webisodes and as soon as we get a chance we will post them on the site.

The show we are working on for MTV has been occupying most of our time, especially since I am co-directing and editing segments for the show and Luke as been co-directing and DPing it all. The show has lots of elements and we think it's going to be a good one. Anyways, back to work!
